Be A Part of the Dream!

JOSEPH'S COAT NEEDS YOU!!

We have a lot of fabric collected for Joseph's Dreamcoat! Thank you to everyone who has helped.

We could still use more fabric pieces, especially green, orange, and red. If you would like to donate fabric please drop it off in the school office asap.

Hour of Adoration

Please join us for adoration for the Holy Cross School musical:

Thursday, March 8th 6:30p-7:30p
Holy Cross Church

Please join us for any or all of the hour. Kids are welcomed and encouraged to attend.  As show time grows closer we would like to get as many people as we can together to pray for the show. This is a time to give thanks for all of those who have given so much of their time and talent in order to make this happen.   It is also a time to remember why we do the play every year...for the kids.  Things will inevitably get busy and stressful and may not go as planned, and people may have different ideas about how things should work, but we are all a part of the musical for the same reason.  So let's take some time out of our busy schedules to ensure a successful and joyful musical experience. See you there!!

Rehearsal Schedule for the Next Two Weeks

I have made some changes to the rehearsal schedule for the next two weeks.  Please check the dates and times below, and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions: hcdreamcoat@gmail.com.

I believe we are making fantastic progress at our rehearsals.  With 8 weeks remaining until showtime, we have worked through 13 of the 17 songs, and will cover 3 of the remaining 4 next week.  The cast is doing a very nice job memorizing the music, and they are becoming more confident onstage.  They are funny, energetic and fun to watch.

Of course as we go along, there are parts that are easy and parts that need a little extra attention.  Hence, the schedule changes.  The March/April schedule document has been updated.  This information will also go out in the weekly update emails.  Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Parents are more than welcome to sit in - or help out! - at rehearsal any time you would like.

A Note About Children's Chorus Costumes

Parents! If you would like to have just one pair of shoes for the show, rather than two, that's great. The audience will be looking at our kids' beautiful faces anyway, so if you would like to bring in just the brown/black pair that's fine. Thanks for your input and understanding.

The Children's Chorus costume information sheet can be found under "Important Documents For Parents."

- Cindy Howie, costume committee chair

Weekly Prayer and St. John Bosco Fact

Fact:
Last week we talked about a dream that John had at age nine. When John told his family about his dream, his brothers just laughed at him.  Everyone had a different interpretation on what it meant:  he would become a shepherd, a priest or a gang leader.  Eventually his first dream led him to minister to poor and neglected boys.  He used the love and guidance that seemed impossible at age nine, to lead them to faithful and fulfilled lives.

Prayer:
Heavenly father, we ask you to watch over us as we continue to work hard in all aspects of our lives: school work, responsibilities at home, athletics and play rehearsals.  We may not always know what you have in store for our lives, but help us to trust in you always.   Keep all of our thoughts, words and actions focused on you so that everyone we meet will see your love and mercy through us.

St John Bosco......................pray for us.

Have a great week!

CHILDREN’S CHORUS PARENT MEETING:
One adult representing each family in the children's chorus is required to attend our parent meeting on Monday, February 13th at 7 PM.  The meeting will be at Holy Cross School (probably in the cafeteria).  At this meeting we will review our attendance policy, answer questions, give you information about costuming and ask for help on our different committees.  We will also explain the "wrangling" process.

WRANGLERS:
We appreciate your continued efforts and assistance to help maintain order and (as much) silence (as possible).

Please continue to step in to help wigglers and chatters stay focused and pay attention. If kids are talking or horsing around and should be paying attention, we want you to step in, don't hesitate. And when a small group breaks off to learn something, the others should be strongly encouraged to SIT QUIETLY, and sit with them, if needed.  THANK YOU!

COSTUMES:
COSTUME COMMITTEE NEEDS YOUR HELP! Costumes are coming along great, but there are a few donations we need from you. Scour your closets for the following non-returnable items to help us make more wonderful costumes for the show:

*    dark colored sheets, blankets or table cloths. They are for the cloaks worn by the children's choir during the prison scene, so they don't have to be 'pretty'. Any old thing will do. (White or light color is fine, too. We can always dye them.)
*    baseball caps. We will be making turbans out of them and will need to cut off the brim so be sure it's not your dad's favorite cap.
*    Keep that fabric coming for Joseph's Dreamcoat! Bright and shiny colors are the best.

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE HELPED OUT THIS WEEEK:  Cindy Howie, Denise Hood, Sarah Hasenstab, Maria Perdekamp, and Lisa Herzog, and Mrs. Bohlen for use of the library.

REMINDERS:
*    Please keep bringing in the 8X8 pieces of fabric for Joseph’s coat.  Due date is Friday, February 24.
*    Monday, March 6:  “Off-book” day.
*    Please continue check out the blog at hcdreamcoat.blogspot.com list of props needed!
*    PLEASE E-MAIL absences to hcdreamcoat@gmail.com.  You may also contact Shelly Benson at 352-7230 prior to 2 pm the day of rehearsal.

This Week's Prayer

Heavenly Father, you reached out to those outcasts of society who no one cared for.  Help us to seek those in our lives who need our support and friendship.  Help us to keep our thoughts, words and actions focused on you.  Help us to care less about the laughter of the world and care more about the joy of the Lord.  Help us to pay attention to those teaching  us during rehearsal and to remember all that we have learned.

St. John Bosco…………….
Pray for us!

This Week's Fact about St. John Bosco
John had been having dreams that revealed God’s will for his life since the age of 9.  The young Bosco dreamed he was in a field with a crowd of children.  The children started cursing and misbehaving.  John jumped into the crowd and started fighting and shouting  to try to stop them. Suddenly, a man with a face filled with light appeared dressed in a white flowing mantle.  The man called John over and made him leader of the boys.  John was stunned at being put in charge of these unruly boys.  The man said ‘You will have to win these friends of yours not with blows, but with gentleness and kindness”.

Our Patron Saint

From Jessica McMahon, our spiritual director:

Last week we told you about our patron saint for the musical.  I asked various people for ideas of saints they thought may be good for the musical.  One suggestion was St. John Bosco.  After researching him further, I found out that his feast day was Jan 31st  - the day we were presenting our saint to the students! Also, God’s will for his life was revealed to him through dreams and people made fun of him for that, just like Joseph.  We thought he was the perfect saint for us!  Each week we will present the cast with a fact about St. John Bosco, and will also ask him to pray for us after our opening prayer.

Weekly Update - 02/03

We got our first opportunity to be on stage this week!  The Narrators, Joseph, the Pharaoh, the Baker, the Butler, the Brothers, the King’s Singers, the Go-Go Chorus, Mr. and Mrs. Potiphar and Mrs. Potiphar attendants all worked very hard.  The kids are doing great and we have already worked through half the show!!

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE FOR NEXT WEEK:
*    Tues. Feb. 7 2:45 - 4:15 PM Narr. 1 and 2, Brothers, Jacob, *Ishmaelites
*    Wed. Feb. 8 2:45 - 4:15 PM Joseph, Narr. 1, Brothers, Jacob
*    Thurs. Feb. 9 2:45 - 4:15 PM Joseph, Narr. 1 + 2, Brothers, *Ishmaelites
*    Rehearsal location: Library

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE HELPED OUT THIS WEEK:
Cindy Howie, Denise Hood, Sarah Hasenstab, Jessica McMahon, Deb Feinen, Judy Argentieri, Lia Hege, Jean Ann Hauslauden, Corrine Herges, Holly Spinner, Miss Valley for use of the gym and Mrs. Bohlen for use of the library.

COSTUMES:
Costume fittings continue next week.    As we begin to ask for costume items and/or prop items to be brought in to school, please note those items need to stay at the school until the show is over.  This includes even small items such as socks or hair items.  The reason is that the costume committee members tag each item for each character, then once the character has their entire costume, it is marked as complete.  If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact  Shelly Benson athcdreamcoat@gmail.com or at 352-7230.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Monday, March 6 is the first day all characters will be “off book”, or that everything needs to be memorized.  Parents of kids with large roles (Narrators, Joseph, Brothers) should encourage their students to work on memorization at home.  We can still provide soundtrack CD’s for anyone who thinks this will help with memorization.  The kids will still be able to hold onto their sheet music to practice with at home – we just want to work without it at rehearsals.  Some of the kids are already doing quite well with this, and of those students we have talked with, they don’t seem concerned.

PROP REQUESTS:
Please check out the blog at hcdreamcoat.blogspot.com for complete list.  Some newly added items:
*    upscale shopping bags (not plastic), hat boxes
*    arge ribbon award that says "Leader of Household" in large letters (to pin on Joseph's shirt)
*    2 gold or silver goblets
*    gold or silver serving tray
*    gold fashioned telephone

WRANGLERS:

Please know that this is just a friendly reminder:

When you come to wrangle, we appreciate your efforts and the time you have taken from your busy schedule to make our musical a successful experience for all the children. We need your to help maintain order and (as much) silence (as possible).

That said, please step in to help wigglers and chatters stay focused and pay attention. If kids are talking or horsing around and should be paying attention, we want you to step in, don't hesitate. And when a small group breaks off to learn something, the others should be strongly encouraged to SIT QUIETLY, and sit with them, if needed.

Thanks again for your help!

REMINDERS:
*    Please keep bringing in the 8X8 pieces of fabric for Joseph’s coat.  Due date is Friday, February 24.

Prayer from the past week

Lord, help me to be attentive, not rowdy, humble, not boastful, kind, not ill-tempered.  Help me to never forget all the gifts I've been given and help me to make the choices here on earth that will get me to heaven.

AMEN
