This Week's Prayer and St. John Bosco fact
Prayer
Thank
you Lord for all of the blessings that you gave us over Spring break.
We are grateful for the good weather and the time to relax. Please be
with us this week in all that we do. Help us to keep our focus
during rehearsals and in school. Open our eyes and ears so that we may
see you and hear you in those you have placed in our lives.
St. John Bosco..........Pray for us!
Fact....This
week we are going to revisit why we chose St. John Bosco as our patron
Saint. God often spoke to St. John Bosco through his dreams
just like he spoke to Joseph. Many people did not believe St. John and
laughed at him. As he grew and became a priest he saw that he was
called to work with trouble children, mostly young boys from poor
families. He taught them about God by being their friend.
Props List: COMPLETE!
We now have somebody taking care of each prop we need for our show! Thank you, thank you to everyone who is letting us borrow items. A special thank you to all the families who made things for us as well.
If you have volunteered a prop and still have not turned it in, please give it to Sandra Ritter or Tracey Wszalek by THIS FRIDAY, March 30th.
Great job everyone!

Children's Chorus Costume Note from Cindy
HELLO FROM THE COSTUME COMMITTEE. Just wanted to give a big shout out to
thank everyone for doing such an excellent job of creating colorful
costumes for the end of the show. You all looked fabulous and we can't
wait to see you together on stage.
Thank you also to the wranglers who stepped up and helped our costume parades move along steadily and successfully. We couldn't have done it without your active and joyful participation.
SPECIAL COSTUME NOTE TO THE CHILDREN'S' CHORUS! Your opening costume is a uniform consisting of tan pants and a dark blue uniform shirt. We are asking you to be responsible in coming to the dress rehearsals and show nights already dressed in your uniform for the show. Parents - this will give you (and us) one less change of clothes to monitor and retrieve at the end of each night. IF YOU STILL NEED this costume, there are plenty of tan pants and dark blue shirts in the uniform closet. ALL WE ASK is that you put your child's name in both pieces with a piece of masking tape so that when they change to and from their colorful costume, we can be sure they get the correct uniform back.
THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE. Here's to a 'technicolor'ful show!!!

Weekly Prayer and St. John Bosco fact
St. John Bosco Fact...
After becoming a priest, John lived in Turin,
Italy. He walked the street of Turin with great sadness, seeing how
hard life was for so many people. John decided the best way to help
these poor people was to be their friend. He invited boys to his church.
Soon more than 400 boys joined him on Sundays in the slums of the
city.
Prayer...
Lord, help us to be
friends with those around us who need a friend. We pray that our hearts
are filled with love, so that we may be an example for all the world.
We praise you for your unconditional love that you show us daily.
St. John Bosco...................... pray for us!

Ho ho ho! We need your Christmas lights!
Our magical, fabulous, twinkly, sparkly, colorful set needs strands of small, white, non-LED Christmas lights.
Can we please borrow yours?
We will retrieve them during the Sunday tear down on April 15th. Every loaned strand that we use will be affixed with a label with your name on it, so you will get it back when we are done.
Our plan calls only for white non-LED lights, in the "standard" small bulb size. LED bulbs will not work. We can use any wire color you have: white, green, whatever, the wires will be hidden.
You can bring them to rehearsal or email: kgmoore@gmail.com. Even just one is helpful.
Thank you!!
It is true that we ask for a LOT to make our show happen - but we promise it will all be worth it in the end!

This week's prayer and St. John Bosco fun fact
St. John Bosco fact:
Last week we heard that it wasn't
easy for St. John Bosco to minister to poor boys. He had little money,
and friends and priests thought he was crazy. But through it all he
found encouragement and support through his dreams.
In
another dream he had, Mary led him into a beautiful garden with roses
everywhere. He was told to take off his shoes, only to find that after a
few steps his naked feet were bleeding from the thorns. Mary told him
to put on sturdy shoes and this time he stepped forward only to find
that his path closed in on him, thorns caught him from all around. When
he tried to push the roses aside he only got more cuts! FINALLY he
climbed through the roses and thorns to find another incredible garden.
A cool breeze soothed his torn skin and healed his wounds. In this
dream he saw the roses as his charity to the boys, the thorns were the
distractions , obstacles, and frustrations that would stand in his way.
It was clear to him that he must keep going, not lose faith in God and
he would come through to the place he belonged.
Prayer:
St. John Bosco is a great example to us of perseverance. Often we lose our way with distractions and frustrations. Help us to keep going when things are
tough. Help us to stay focused on the place where we belong.
St. John Bosco..............Pray for us!

Hour of Adoration
Please join us for adoration for the Holy Cross School musical:
Thursday, March 8th 6:30p-7:30p
Holy Cross Church
Please
join us for any or all of the hour. Kids are welcomed and encouraged to
attend. As show time grows closer we would like to get as many people as we can
together to pray for the show. This is a time to give thanks for all of
those who have given so much of their time and talent in order to make
this happen. It is also a time to remember why
we do the play every year...for the kids. Things will inevitably get
busy and stressful and may not go as planned, and people may have
different ideas about how things should work, but we are all a part of
the musical for the same reason. So let's take some time out of our busy
schedules to ensure a successful and joyful musical experience. See you
there!!

Rehearsal Schedule for the Next Two Weeks
I have made some changes to the rehearsal schedule for the next two weeks. Please check the dates and times below, and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions: hcdreamcoat@gmail.com.
I believe we are making fantastic progress at our rehearsals. With 8 weeks remaining until showtime, we have worked through 13 of the 17 songs, and will cover 3 of the remaining 4 next week. The cast is doing a very nice job memorizing the music, and they are becoming more confident onstage. They are funny, energetic and fun to watch.
Of course as we go along, there are parts that are easy and parts that need a little extra attention. Hence, the schedule changes. The March/April schedule document has been updated. This information will also go out in the weekly update emails. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Parents are more than welcome to sit in - or help out! - at rehearsal any time you would like.

A Note About Children's Chorus Costumes
Parents! If you would like to
have just one pair of shoes for the show, rather than two, that's great.
The audience will be looking at our kids' beautiful faces anyway, so if
you would like to bring in just the brown/black pair that's fine.
Thanks for your input and understanding.

Weekly Prayer and St. John Bosco Fact
Fact:
Last week we talked about a dream that John had at age nine. When
John told his family about his dream, his brothers just laughed at him.
Everyone had a different interpretation on what it meant: he would
become a shepherd, a priest or a gang leader. Eventually his first
dream led him to minister to poor and neglected boys. He used the love
and guidance that seemed impossible at age nine, to lead them to
faithful and fulfilled lives.
Prayer:
Heavenly
father, we ask you to watch over us as we continue to work hard in all
aspects of our lives: school work, responsibilities at home, athletics
and play rehearsals. We may not always know what you have in store for
our lives, but help us to trust in you always. Keep all of our
thoughts, words and
actions focused on you so that everyone we meet will see your love and
mercy through us.
St John Bosco...................... pray for us.
Have a great week!

parent meeting on Monday, February 13th at 7 PM. The meeting will
be at Holy Cross School (probably in the cafeteria). At this meeting we
will review our attendance policy, answer questions, give you information about
costuming and ask for help on our different committees. We will also
explain the "wrangling" process.
WRANGLERS:
We appreciate your continued
efforts and assistance to help maintain order and (as much) silence (as
possible).
Please continue to step in to help wigglers and chatters stay focused and pay attention. If kids are talking or horsing around and should be paying attention, we want you to step in, don't hesitate. And when a small group breaks off to learn something, the others should be strongly encouraged to SIT QUIETLY, and sit with them, if needed. THANK YOU!

This Week's Prayer
Heavenly Father, you
reached out to those outcasts of society who no one cared for. Help us
to seek those in our lives who need
our support and friendship. Help us to
keep our thoughts, words and actions focused on you. Help us to care
less about the laughter of
the world and care more about the joy of the Lord. Help us to pay
attention to those teaching us during rehearsal and to remember all
that
we have learned.
St. John Bosco…………….
Pray for us!
This Week's Fact about St.
John Bosco
John had been having dreams that revealed God’s will for his
life since the age of 9. The young Bosco
dreamed he was in a field with a crowd of children. The children started cursing and
misbehaving. John jumped into the crowd and
started fighting and shouting to try to
stop them. Suddenly, a man with a face filled with light appeared dressed in a
white flowing mantle. The man called
John over and made him leader of the boys.
John was stunned at being put in charge of these unruly boys. The man said ‘You will have to win these
friends of yours not with blows, but with gentleness and kindness”.

Our Patron Saint
From Jessica McMahon, our spiritual director:
Last week we told you about our patron saint for the musical. I asked various people for ideas of saints they thought may be good for the musical. One suggestion was St. John Bosco. After researching him further, I found out that his feast day was Jan 31st - the day we were presenting our saint to the students! Also, God’s will for his life was revealed to him through dreams and people made fun of him for that, just like Joseph. We thought he was the perfect saint for us! Each week we will present the cast with a fact about St. John Bosco, and will also ask him to pray for us after our opening prayer.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE FOR NEXT WEEK:
THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE HELPED OUT THIS WEEK:
Cindy Howie, Denise Hood, Sarah Hasenstab, Jessica McMahon, Deb Feinen, Judy Argentieri, Lia Hege, Jean Ann Hauslauden, Corrine Herges, Holly Spinner, Miss Valley for use of the gym and Mrs. Bohlen for use of the library.
COSTUMES:
Costume fittings continue next week. As we begin to ask for costume items and/or prop items to be brought in to school, please note those items need to stay at the school until the show is over. This includes even small items such as socks or hair items. The reason is that the costume committee members tag each item for each character, then once the character has their entire costume, it is marked as complete. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact Shelly Benson athcdreamcoat@gmail.com or at 352-7230.
PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Monday, March 6 is the first day all characters will be “off book”, or that everything needs to be memorized. Parents of kids with large roles (Narrators, Joseph, Brothers) should encourage their students to work on memorization at home. We can still provide soundtrack CD’s for anyone who thinks this will help with memorization. The kids will still be able to hold onto their sheet music to practice with at home – we just want to work without it at rehearsals. Some of the kids are already doing quite well with this, and of those students we have talked with, they don’t seem concerned.
PROP REQUESTS:
Please check out the blog at hcdreamcoat.blogspot.com for complete list. Some newly added items:

Choreography Notes for the King's Singers
This week the King's Singers group learned all of their choreography for "Poor Poor Pharaoh" and "Song of the King." They can practice it at home by clicking on the Accompanese song 09 - "Poor Poor Pharaoh" (both songs will play).
The following is a breakdown of the King's Singers dance steps for these two songs. These are just notes to jog your memory as you practice. Remember, the most important part is to KEEP THE BEAT. This dance looks awesome if we all stick together!
"Poor Poor Pharaoh"
Part A:
Bring hands together as if praying, stand facing front and sing:
"Poor, poor Pharaoh, what-cha gonna do? Dreams are daunting you, hey, what-cha gonna do?" x2
Hold out hand closest to Joseph when it is your group's turn:
(group 1) chained and bound, afraid, a...
(group 2) ...lone
(group 3) Joseph stood before the
(group 4) throne
Then watch and listen as Joseph sings. Get ready to start "Song of the King" with your crazy dancing!
"Song of the King"
Do your crazy '50s dance for 16 counts (count in your head along with the beat)
Part A:
Go Swimming!
Repeat all of Part A
Repeat all of Part B
Finally:
boys - rock out on your guitar
girls - groove to the music
Everyone - hold your head, swing back and forth
Move down to the floor and swing up to the ceiling
End by dropping down to the floor on one knee
YOU DID THE WHOLE THING!! Great work!

Joseph Accompaniment Recordings Are Available
Hello Parents!
We have put recordings of the accompaniment for all the songs from "Joseph" online. These songs will give your kids a chance to practice the music at home, or just show you what great singers they are! We will be using the same accompaniment tool to run the rehearsals, so these recordings will be familiar to them.
These recordings are mp3 files and will play on any music player device. Each of the songs is available from the list on the left titled "Joseph Accompaniment Recordings". There is also a Zip file archive of all the songs. If you download that you will have all the songs you need.
If you need a CD made of the accompaniment we can do that as well, just drop us a note at hcdreamcoat@gmail.com.

Information about our change to 3 performances
After
carefully considering all of the factors and options, we have made the decision
to hold three Joseph performances, rather than four. The new performance schedule is as
follows:
Friday, April 13, 7 PM
Saturday, April 14, 7 PM
Sunday, April 15, 2 PM
As
you can see, the Thursday night performance has been removed.
This change
requires us to create one, single-cast children’s chorus. Our entire cast will perform in all
three shows. This does not
increase the number of rehearsals your child will attend. Our rehearsal schedule for January and
February remains the same. We have
revised the schedule for March and April. Please click the link to your right (Rehearsal Schedule - March and April) to see the revised schedule.
We will
review this change at the parent meeting and answer any questions you may
have. Our parent meeting will be:
Monday, January 9, 7 PM in the school
library
Children’s
chorus families (grades K-3) are encouraged, but not required, to attend this
meeting. We will have a second
parent meeting for the children’s chorus in February.
